Blind People in Charge is The Pacific Training Centre’s core program. Designed for adults who are blind or losing their vision, participants learn vital skills that lead to greater independence.
We use a progressive and proven training style known as ‘Structured Discovery’. Students are taught foundational skills in areas such as cane travel, Braille, adaptive technology, life skills such as cooking and employment readiness. They then use these skills in practical situations to build confidence.
Students who have graduated from this program have gone on to live independently, become employed, and start their own businesses.
The Blind People in Charge program is offered from September to June each year and intake occurs continually. If you are blind, losing your sight, or know of someone who could benefit from this training, please contact us for more information. Or, if you prefer, read our Scope of Services for yourself.
Don’t live in the Greater Victoria area but are still interested in attending the Pacific Training Centre for the Blind? We are proud to offer a Home Stay program for students who meet certain criteria. Click here to learn more.
